Absal was born and raised in East Jerusalem to a Palestinian father and English mother. He read Psychology and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Toronto. He then started clinical training in the Gaza Strip at the Gaza Mental Health Program. In 2005, he went on to complete an LLB at the University of Buckingham and returned to Palestine to begin training for the Palestinian bar. He trained at Husseini & Husseini, Ramallah, in corporate law, and was called to the Bar of Palestine. He was also seconded to help set up the newly formed Higher Council for Youth and Sport.
In January 2013 he opened his own law firm in East Jerusalem.
